Nova Era Afronautas is described as an educational ecosystem that combines AI, global education, and borderless innovation in one place. According to a press release from the organisers, the platform represents "a universe of knowledge in a single place" with a range of innovative features designed to make learning more accessible and interactive.
Key features of the platform include:
- Recorded courses and AI-generated content – The platform offers pre-recorded courses alongside AI-generated content delivered in a question-and-answer format with real-time interaction, allowing learners to engage with material in a more dynamic way
- "Afronautas Now" – Live group classes that enable collaborative learning and real-time engagement with instructors and peers
- "Afronautas Connect" – One-on-one real-time sessions for personalised learning experiences and individualised support
- Multilingual capability – The platform is available in both Portuguese and English, marking an important step toward internationalisation and broader accessibility
- Gamification and personalised teaching – The ecosystem integrates gamification elements and personalised learning approaches to enhance student engagement and outcomes
A Strategic Initiative for Angola's Education Sector
The launch of Nova Era Afronautas comes at a time when Angola is making significant strides in the digital transformation of its education system. The initiative aims to "present to the public, partners and the educational community an innovative ecosystem that integrates recorded courses, AI, gamification, personalised teaching and multilingual learning, reinforcing the commitment of Afronautas with the digital transformation of education in Africa".
The launch follows other major digital education initiatives in Angola, including the AngoREN project—the country's national education and research network presented in May 2026, which includes up to $25 million in planned investments for network deployment and university digitalisation. That project, led by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, aims to improve university connectivity, expand digital learning platforms and strengthen student and faculty access to digital resources.
A National Push for Digital Learning
The Nova Era Afronautas platform joins a growing ecosystem of digital education initiatives in Angola. In February 2026, the government announced it was moving forward with the introduction of Artificial Intelligence in the national education system, with a focus on teacher training and school management as a first step.
Key initiatives include:
- "Digital School" project – A pilot programme developed in partnership with the United Arab Emirates, based on STEM curricula, which includes the installation of digital classrooms equipped with computers and tablets in 10 schools across 10 provinces, along with the training of 100 teachers
- Learning Passport Angola (Xilonga) – A distance-learning platform developed by the Ministry of Education in partnership with UNICEF, designed to provide educational resources and teaching materials for primary and secondary education, particularly reaching children and youth who are out of school or require additional learning support
- ANGOTIC 2026 Forum – The 6th edition of the Angola International Forum on Information and Communication Technologies, held in June 2026 under the motto "On the Road to Digital Transformation," brought together experts, companies and institutions to discuss digital transformation and showcase technological solutions
- Workforce development partnerships – Recent agreements such as the partnership between TIS Academy and ALUN Group aim to accelerate digital skills development in AI, data science, cloud computing, and cybersecurity, while the Instituto Angolano da Juventude (IAJ) partnered with Brazilian company Wongola to train young Angolans in technology through the "Black in Tech" programme

The launch of Nova Era Afronautas reflects Angola's broader commitment to leveraging technology to improve educational outcomes and prepare the country's youth for the digital economy. As the organisers noted, the initiative "reinforces the commitment of Afronautas with the digital transformation of education in Africa".
The platform's launch aligns with Angola's 2023-2027 National Development Plan, which prioritises digital transformation and receives financial backing from the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education. The government views digital skills development as "a key driver of economic diversification in a country that has historically depended on oil revenues".
