African countries are at the forefront of climate innovation and resilience building, developing solutions to address the impacts of climate change while pursuing sustainable development. The continent, despite contributing less than 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions, is disproportionately affected by climate impacts.
"Climate change is an existential threat for Africa," said Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank. "But it also presents opportunities for innovation, investment, and sustainable development."
Innovations include renewable energy projects, climate-smart agriculture, and climate information services. Countries are implementing adaptation strategies including water conservation, early warning systems, and climate-resilient infrastructure.
International support is critical, with calls for increased climate finance, technology transfer, and capacity building. African leaders are advocating for their priorities in global climate negotiations, emphasizing the need for both adaptation and mitigation support.
