African Leaders Commit to Continental Peace and Security Framework

African leaders have endorsed a new continental peace and security framework at the African Union summit in Addis Ababa, committing to enhanced cooperation in conflict prevention, mediation, and post-conflict reconstruction. The framework, known as the African Peace and Security Architecture 2.0, represents a significant upgrade to the continent's peace and security mechanisms.

The framework includes enhanced early warning systems, rapid response capabilities, and improved coordination between the African Union and Regional Economic Communities. Leaders also committed to increased funding for peace operations and stronger mechanisms for human rights protection.

"Peace and security are fundamental to Africa's development," said AU Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat. "This framework provides us with the tools to prevent conflicts and build lasting peace across our continent."

The summit also addressed ongoing conflicts in Sudan, the Sahel region, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with leaders calling for renewed diplomatic efforts and humanitarian support for affected populations.
